Turbo Bodyboards Team
Bodyboarding stalwart Turbo have stepped up to the next level to strengthen their brand with the release of their new International Team and Website. This comes shortly after the announcement that Turbo will be this year’s naming rights sponsor for the first IBA Grand Slam Event; The Turbo Bodyboards Pipeline Pro in Hawaii this February.
The Global Turbo Team consists of the following shredders, Andre Botha, Mike Murphy and Jacob Romero.
Turbo pulled off a massive signing by inking the contract of one of craziest men to ever lay hands on a bodyboard, South Africa’s Andre Botha. Dre has accomplished a hell of a lot during his time on the boogs, including two World Championships, the first of which he won when he was only 15! He may have skirted around in the bodyboarding wilderness for a short while but he has once again, comprehensively, proven to us here at Riptide HQ how good he really is with some amazing surfing and all out charging in the Canary Islands late last year. The photos to prove it will be featured in the Euro Trash feature in the next issue of Riptide due out early February.
Another new addition to the team is Mike Murphy. Mike is known for his ability to take-off on some of the meanest waves know to mankind at Pipeline in Hawaii, this stems from the fact that he is often the first man into the water at Pipe and the last to leave, often surfing by himself in the dark – a real vampire rider. His aggressive surfing at the Banzai has also resulted in some solid placing at the Pipe Comp in recent years and Turbo would be hoping that his form there continues now that they are the chief sponsor. Mike has a reputation as one of best and keenest guys to come out of the East Coast of the USA and will be a valuable Turbo Global Team member.
Last but not least is Maui’s Jacob Romero. While Jacob may not be extremely well known to us here in Australia, he has a solid rep in the islands of Hawaii. Not only does he have boosting skills, he flys with the style to match that is oh-so-pleasing to the eye.
The Global Turbo Team compliments the Turbo Australian Team, a team that includes; Chad Jackson, Morgan Brown, Robby Gray, Garth McGregor, Michael Honeybone, Glen Sullivan, Jayden Hunt, Keegan Cronin, Emma Roby and Lilly Pollard.
